"Old Blue" was such a hard working, dependable old thing. Not much to look at but always there for me. She kept me safe in storms, took me on trips, kept me in business because of her faithfulness. Then one day she was sluggish, I knew she was old and tired. But she kept trying to move for me until the very end, pulling herself down the road, bit by tired bit, until she just couldn't move by herself anymore. Experts were summoned and most said because of her age to just let her go. Take the best of her and give to others but she wasn't going to be around. But I didn't want to let go of her. Dad called one last person to look at her and see what they could do. They put their heads together and examined every inch of her. Was she worth saving? Would she be able to be put back together? They finally decided that yes, there was a good chance. It would be expensive but was worth it. I was so happy. It had been 2 weeks since I last saw her and felt the comfort of her. Looking at her from the front, she looked the same, tired and old, but loved. At 6:30 this morning, a horn sounded in front of my house. I ran to look out at a wonderful site...Old Blue coming up the driveway and stopping in her usual spot to rest. YES, OLD BLUE, my beloved VAN was finally home, the operation and replacement of a transmission and engine was a success. New life had been breathed into my "Old Blue". I quickly ran into the studio and grabbed stuff to take to the Farmer's Market. I loaded her with care so happy to be on the road again. When I turned the key and shifted her into gear, she purred and I think even winked her lights as she was ready to hit the road again. Old Blue and Lynne, together again.

Life Between the Dashes 1964-2008

Today has been a really rough day. I was at work when I learned of the death of a school friend, Bosco aka Robert Jones. My boss allowed me to leave and I rused home to change clothes to make it to the service. He was a wonderful man that left this world early at 43, but left so many lives enriched by his touching them. He was a big guy with an even bigger heart. We went to elementary school as well as high school together. Later in life I taught his son at the elementary school I worked at. Bosco was the type of person that never met a stranger. His funeral service today was testimony to that. I heard from another that over 1500 people had attended visitation, rich/poor, white/black/of other color, christian/non christian, people who were richer in life because of knowing Bosco. He touched my life in a way that endures as he was one that put me up to letting Scott's dad know I liked him way back in high school. Because he played matchmaker I have my oldest son Scott today. Bosco worked at our hospital. his mom and my dad were both undergoing treatment for cancer at the same time. Sadly his mother lost her battle. Everytime I had to take Dad to The Medical Center I was comforted just knowing Bosco was there. He would come over to the waiting area with a hug, a drink, information, etc. One of the speakers today was a volunteer with him at the hospital and told of how Bosco would encounter 100 or more patients and families in a shift and most knew and hugged him each time. The life between the dashes in his case was filled with love, laughter, kindess, strength, selflessness, devotion to his wife and children, church and faith. He leaves behind an amazing legacy of love for his children. There were few dry eyes today and standing room only for the service. I held up pretty well until I watched his 12 yr old son Dylan. His mom was crying and Dylan reached around her with his arm across the back of the bench, pulling her head to his shoulder and stroking her hair. He was so obviously comforting his mother in just the manner that his dad has comforted so many in life. I know Bosco was there in spirit watching that and will live on in that legacy of love he left hehind in so many. We were honored to have had him in our lifes. May God watch over and bless Dana, Savannah and Dylan.

Snowman Soup or Holiday Tea Packets

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_52Z8PaYbNtQ/SLtLQWns2mI/AAAAAAAAAAk/iAWDyQUter8/s320/DSCF1701%5B1%5D.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5240865335697791586" />
Great for giveaways or to tuck in Christmas cards. If it is something I think I can salvage I ask to buy it. Sometimes they will allow it, others times they don't. We also get lots broke by customers, lol. Well this one had the top broke out of it. It was polyresin with metal leaves attached. I went ahead and removed the leaves (they were glued on). Put hot glue all around the rim and glued a nest of spanish moss on top. Then I took one of the country candles (2.5") from CWI and also glued in on top covering the hole. I added a touch of raffi and then glued the metal leaves to the tin bottom of the candle. Scroll down and you will see a picture of it with a tag added to it. Artwork from PC Crafter on tag. I love this pumpkin because it looks like carved wood. Now I have a light for my table. I am going to scent the silicone bulb with pumpkin pie oil. I created this 20" tall one yesterday from grapevine, ribbon and feathers. It gives off a "magical" glow thanks to the 20 light set wired inside. Colorful tag on brim reads "Never mess with a woman and her broom." Cute centerpiece idea for your Midnight Ball or Halloween gathering or for upcoming craft shows. This one is sold but I can create one just like it again or even prim in nature. I am also selling the epattern to create your own and you can decorate as desired. Because of the flash you can't tell it is really black in color. If you are interested in either holler at me at wreathartist@aol.com . Finished hats are $25 and the epattern is $3.

Double Chocolate Candy Corn Bark

Wondering what to put in the cute bags shown below? How about candy corn bark? Make it using this great recipe from Elizabeth LaBau from about.candy.com

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup white chocolate chips
1 cup candy corn
Preparation:
1.Prepare a cookie sheet by lining it with alumium foil.

2. In separate bowls, melt the chocolates in the microwave or over a double boiler.

3. Stir ½ cup candy corn into the dark chocolate, and pour the chocolate onto the foiled pan. Using a spoon or spatula, smooth the chocolate out in an even layer. It does not have to cover the whole pan.

4. Take a spoon and scoop small amounts of white chocolate over the dark chocolate in a random pattern. Use a toothpick or the tip of a knife to swirl the two chocolates together. Don’t swirl too much, you want to be able to see the distinct chocolates in the end.

5. Place the remaining ½ cup candy corn over the wet chocolates, sprinkling randomly and pressing them gently into the chocolate until they adhere.

6. Put the chocolate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to harden.

7. When the bark is firm, remove it from the foil and break it into pieces.

Cute Halloween Treat Bags

These are cute little bags you can buy and create from Daise Co. Before I share pictures let me hit some of the high drama points:

1. I forgot - my "don't forget list", my clothes, the planners for giveaways.
2. The walls came tumbling down - trying to hang my lattice for the wreaths - the wall came down on top of me. Ouch!!!
3. If that wasn't enough I took a fall off a six foot ladder when the security guard was trying to tell me to be careful. I couldn't hear her so I turned to her and fell off the third step. Bruised my pride, my butt, my hand and my elbow. Not to mention I took out the show sign by my booth.
4. Elaine, my partner in adventure, lost her shoe, her sanity from dealing with me and my cash collection method (she says it was basically wad up money - stick in paper bag - wad up paper bag and shove into drawer). She was right, lol.
5. Knocked a flower arrangement onto her head
6. Embarrassed her at lunch when I managed to get tomato sauce in my eye. The meatball rolled as I was trying to cut it and it shot me in the eye. The waiter really wanted to bring us a round of drinks because he thought we needed them.
7. Got lost on way back to hotel one day
8. Broke up fight at hotel by calling 911.
9. I am sure Elaine will remind me of the other things shortly as there was much more.

Now are you ready for pictures? It was an awesome show. Floral sold so fast. They kept Elaine and I both hopping as they formed two lines to buy and shoved piles of wreaths along with their feet (AGGGGGGGHHHHH I worked hard on those). It was great time and so nice to meet some of my friends there as well as work side by side with Elaine.

Would you like to see the booth 2 hours after opening???

Fall is in the air (I wish)

Here in KY is so hot and humid right now. I had yesterday off from work so I decided to work on fall wreaths and things for my show next month in OH. Got 6 wreaths or arrangments done but only got to take pictures of two before the batteries died on the camera (probably heat exhaustion). The first one has a heavy old birdhouse in it. The house has a gabled roof like a victorian birdhouse. I added the cutest little bird to it. A friend from another board said I should name it "Autumn's Song" so I am. I name most of my wreaths even though the are one of a kind.

This other one is done is russets, golds, coppers and the faintest hint of sage green. But now comes the bigger question...what to do with it? I could keep it and decorate it for my own use here at the house, take it to market next month and sell as is, or ???? She had booked the candelabra rental with the store across from us. They lost her order so she came to see if we rented candelabras. I called our new assistant manager and asked her to bring the key over so we could get them out of our storage area. Our storage area connects through a hall to our classroom at work. The hall is full of baskets of scrapbooking paper, furniture, fixtures and other stuff so you can't get through it. The only other entrance is through our emergency exit so you have to have a key. If no key an alarm sounds. So Chasity came over and unlocked the door for me. We went into the storage area and got the candelabras. Then Chasity asks me how to open the door back up to get out. UH OH, there is no doorknob on the back side. We are locked in!!!! How embarrassing it would be if we had to use her phone to call someone to let us out. I heard voices in the classroom and realized Tammy, the cake decorator, was still in there after her class ended. So I started knocking on the wall and hollering for her to open the classroom door where she could see us over everything. It was soooo funny. We had to ask her to go out and open the door from the outside and let us out. We were all laughing so hard over it. Ended the night with a laugh which is always good.

Would love a cool fall breeze...

It is 11pm and still 88 degrees out. Stock up and make everyone you know a personalized notebook as a stocking stuffer or "just because." I showed a Halloween one I made for myself in the following slide show. They are SOOOO simple.

1. Design your cover on your computer with whatever graphic design program you use. I use Scrapbook Explosion and Microsoft Picture It. Make sure to size it at the same size as your notebook pages.
2. Print on heavy cardstock and laminate.
3. Dismantle the notebook by unscrewing the corkscrew wire binding it.
4. Lay the old cover over your cover and punch through the holes using a 1/8" hole punch (1/4" is too big).
5. Toss the old cover, line of the holes and rescrew in the binding coil.

How easy was that???? Would love to see samples of yours. Ugh. Dustin mows the front and I mow the back. My backyard seems to be developing a sink hole issue. We do live in the land of the caves here in KY so maybe there is one under my backyard. My backyard is so big I have to use a riding lawnmower. Really wondering one day if I will be riding around and then all of a sudden find myself at the bottom of a hole in the ground. If so I wonder if Alice in Wonderland, the rabbit and Queen of Hearts will invite me in for tea and crumpets? Speaking of food I am fixing our favorite for breakfast, Angels on Horseback. This recipe is the first I ever made as a young girl. It was in my Girl Scout manual. Basically all you do is take a biscuit and layer on bacon and cheddar cheese and let it melt into gooey goodness. Yummy. Of course as a kid growing up it wasn't real cheddar cheese it was that big brick of yellow cheese, you sliced it yourself into big hunks, can't remember the name of it. They still make and sell it. Anyone know the name???? We now prefer C0-Jack cheese and have to go with low fat, but it is still yummy in the tummy. When I get done with the yard I have about 50-60 more tiles to drill out for holiday shows. Lady came up to me yesterday at work and asked me what shows I was doing. Said she always buys from me. I told her I was cutting back and going to do the Farmer's Market and only about 3 other shows total. I want to be done with EVERYTHING by the 15th of November in time to enjoy the holidays with my family. Well hope you all have a great Sunday. I'll say hello to Alice and the Queen if I see them under my backyard.

Summer Booth at Dairy Barn

I think if I could summarize my summer crafting into two photos it would have to be these two. One of the most popular items I made for others is signs for their business. Here are some of the ones currently available. Each is 8.5 x 11 inches and full color. The front and back of each is shown. You can write on them with a dry erase pen (not included) and then just wipe off. They are durable and decorative. Other styles not shown include Halloween, Valentines and Easter. These signs are $3 each and hang from small suction cups (included). Shipping is by USPS. Order 6 or more and get free shipping. How quickly the days of road trips across the US with him and his brother as little ones passed. The oldest is now out on his own and my youngest is 15. I was in the Army and we lived in TX and CO while both were small. Dustin was 3 months old the first time I drove from CO to KY. Those days of driving were filled with bottles and diapers for him, snacks & bathroom breaks for Scott who is 8 years older. Cries from a baby and a bored 8 year old filled the car from the start, lol. Yesterday's trip was so different. Dustin and I talked and talked. In everyday life we talk but it isn't deep talk, sharing and debating. It is the normal converstations of a mom and a teen. It revolves around dinner, my work, his computer and that is about it. But yesterday for nearly 3 hours we talked about the economy, politics, plans for his future, friends of his, his excitement of going to camp for 2 weeks. We sang. He loves old rock and roll and I confess I didn't realize his tastes so closely matched mine. The few times we could get the radio to pick up something he chose classic rock. We were barreling along the highway singing Sweet Home Alabama, I Love Rock & Roll, and other songs from my past. He did a great rendition of "Doctor, Doctor, give me the news, I've got a bad case of loving you. No pills going to cure my ills...." Hotel California, Margaritaville, and more. Between songs or in spots where we couldn't remember the words WE TALKED, I mean really talked. It was so cool. He makes a great travel companion, noticing the cliffs, houses & farms we passed, pointing out things. I can't tell you how much it felt like we were reconnecting when we are often interupted by everyday life. Yep, got a tear or two running down my cheek now, lol. For those of you that are parents of teens, I encourage you to take a long drive with them. Don't let them bring along their IPOD or headphones. Just turn the car away from home, turn on the radio and listen to your kid share their heart & soul with you.

Hey Lynne, watch out for that tree

we live in a beautiful park area with lots of old trees. Unfortunately being old they will fall without warning. Last year, beautiful sunny summer day, 15-20 mph winds, branch from tree falls crushing three cars in park. Today we decided to run to the corner market and get ice cream sandwiches. We get to the corner stop sign and tree has just fallen across the road where we are fixing to turn. Dust was still settling!!!!! Huge half of tree with massive trunk. Beautiful sunny day. It would have crushed any car that was passing beneath it. So glad that they got the tree out of my back yard a few weeks ago. No sooner did they tighten the rope around it than it fell. It wouldn't have went through another storm and it would have split this house down the middle with the size of it.

That song from George of the Jungle is going through my mind. I want to get back to my roots in crafting and bring back some of the things I was know for over the years. Like my lampshades for mason jars. I not only made these when I had a booth but even made them for the Longaberger basket company to fit their Blue Ribbon Canning Jars. Working on new styles and will be selling them again at my craft shows this fall/winter. Check back soon for pics. I also plan on getting back into the personalization again. I miss doing that. When he called me after school he asked if I heard what happened. A junior committed suicide yesterday. He was popular, athletic, good student, etc and decided to take his life. My son didn't personally know him but it still shook him. The teachers were crying as well as the students. We talked and they have talked to them at school. Our town is small and another friend stopped by at work with her sister last night to see if I had heard and if my son was friends with him. Apparently he took the time to write a letter to each of his parents and his older brother. After everyone was in bed he went out to his mother's car and got her handgun, went to a ditch by the drive and shot himself. His dad found him when backing out of the drive the next morning. So sad. My heart goes out to his parents. The guilt and pain they are sure to face is hard to fathom. I stressed to my son that school and teen years have challenges. But it is like the KY weather, one minute stormy and one minute beautiful and sunny. You just have to wait it out and above all TALK TO ME. I cry for the parents left behind. Please take a moment today to hug your child, speak to a teen or stranger with a kind greeting.

A Sunday Drive

Today started out ugly and gray. We had been planning a trip to Nashville to visit my grandmother's grave so I could put her a new saddle on it. We were also going to celebrate my oldest son's 3 year anniversary with his darling girlfriend with lunch at Rainforest Cafe. Three years is such a long time. We all adore her but they are in no hurry to get married or anything. They are taking it one day at a time because she goes to school full time and works full time as well as him working 2nd shift full time. Makes it hard to spend time together. But today I got to spend it with both my sons and her. We went to Rainforest Cafe for lunch and walked in with no reservations. Opry Mills Mall was built on the site of the Opryland Amusement Park. Some idiots decided to tear down a wonderful, wonderful family theme park and build a shopping mall next to the Opryland Hotel. They thought that people would come from all over the US to stay at the hotel, visit the Grand Old Opry and shop in the mall. What a dumb idea. My kids have so many fond memories of Opryland. In it's place sits a shopping mall that is struggling to survive. So many of the stores have closed. These are the same stores that you can find in any mall so nothing special about it. We ate lunch and wandered around. They went to D&B entertainment center for awhile and I grabbed a table at Barnes and Nobles and read my way through Southern Living, Rachel Ray and a couple of other magazines. How come I catch myself reading the food sections first???? I need to lose weight yet that is what catches my eye. GRRR. The day turned out to be bright and sunny after all. We stopped by and put flowers on grandma's headstone. I have to go back down and clean it and add new foam/flowers to the vases. It was nice to get away for the day. Remind me to tell you about my grandmother and what made her so special to me some other time.

Welcome to Heaven's Roses

Unique Designs created by me, Lynne, to honor those you loved. Since the loss of my grandmother, Leila, 7 years ago, I have been creating designs to treasure for those you treasured. I specialize in memorial flowers for all seasons and love to create something special just for you. Around Christmas last year I had a dream of a new design concept. It was of an Angel created from grapevine and used to hold floral bouquets. I sat on the idea for awhile until I had the time and money to try it. My Grapevine Memorial Angels took wing on that flight of creativity and have become my signature product. Locally I have created dozens of these 22" angels to stand watch at home, in gardens and cemeteries, in honor of a loved one. Each one that is custom made has a story behind the flowers or colors. They come with your choice of my poetry, laminated and attached, to the angel to pay tribute in words. An additional copy of the poem is also given to you for a keepsake. Angels come with tie down stakes if needed. They can be attached over the vases on a headstone, staked into the ground at the base of the headstone, or secured on top of the headstone. Flowers can be changed out each season if desired. Let me create a unique design in honor of your loved one. I ship across the US and accept paypal. Please note creation time is usually 2-3 days except during busy seasons like Memorial Day when it can be up to 7 days plus ship time. Each Angel is $22.99 (includes poems and stakes) and shipping is a flat rate 7.50 anywhere in the continental US.

Heaven's Glory Grapevine Angel - Your choice of pink, blue (shown) or purple Morning Glories
